The Mission
Increase recruitment and expand programming for Musical Explorers.
Musical Explorers was originally a tuition free 6 week program for 3rd graders in the Boston Public Schools interested in being introduced to musical instruments including p-bone (plastic trombone), p-trumpet (plastic trumpet), double bass, and guitar. They wanted someone to lead and grow the program.
Lisa’s Impacts
Personally visited over 25 elementary schools to meet with their principal, music teachers and/or 3rd grade teachers to promote the program.
Managed the inventory of musical instruments.
Expanded the programming to include chorus.
Hired and contracted faculty.
Served as the main point of contact for all students, families, faculty, and Boston Public Schools.
Outcome
Increased recruitment from 16 students in 2018 to 33 students in 2019 and 36 students in 2020.
Expanded the program offerings (added chorus) and duration (to 9 weeks).
Established strong partnerships for potential opportunity for future growth.
