The Mission

Shift from the “asking” model to an “assigning” model.

To increase efficiency of the teambuilding* process, the “asking” model that was a cultural norm had to change to an “assigning” model. Because this critical and complex system of teambuilding was at the core of the business, communication and deliverable of the change were key to a successful transformation.

*Teambuilding was the term used at IDEO for staffing designers onto projects.


Lisa’s Impacts

  • Conducted research interviews to understand the current state and process.

  • Created a visual map of the current and future system.

  • Proposed, designed (using the human centered design method), and implemented new tools (using Airtable) that would support the new system. (Learn more)

  • Created resources and recorded tutorial videos to build confidence and increase adoption of the new tool.


Outcomes

  • Adoption of new tool such as the Design Teambuilding Portal by the 200+ designers of IDEO North America.

  • Zero push-back during the implementation of the new teambuilding process.
